Jan Christoph-Oetjen

Member, European Parliament

Jan-Christoph Oetjen was born on February 21, 1978 in Rotenburg/Wümme (Germany) and is married with two children. He studied Economic Sciences at the University of Hannover. His political career began early on when he became a member of the Junge Liberale (liberal youth organisation) and the FDP (Free Democratic Party) in 1995. Furthering his engagement, he worked as member of the state executive committee of the Junge Liberale from 1997 to 2002 and was appointed state chairman of the Junge Liberale of Lower Saxony. He served as a Member of the Lower Saxony State parliament from 2003 to 2019, being subsequently re-elected three times. Mr. Oetjen was spokesperson for agricultural and home affairs. During that time, he held the office of chairman of the FDP district association Elbe-Weser and is member of the state executive committee of the FDP Lower Saxony since 1998. 

Since July 02, 2019 Jan-Christoph Oetjen is a Member of the European Parliament, representing the FDP as vice-chair of the transport and tourism committee (TRAN), as a substitute member of the home affairs committee (LIBE), the development (DEVE) and as well the human-rights committee (DROI).
